While you’re there, basking in the glow of pre-American history, visit Plimoth Plantation, a bi-cultural museum focusing on the history of the native Wampanoag people and the first colonial settlers of America.
2 ) Any Indian Casino
They’re all over this great country, and since the first Thanksgiving was the beginning of the end for the true natives of America, we should patronize their casinos in honor of the atrocities we committed early in our U.S. history. Plus, if you play long enough, you might get a Thanksgiving dinner comped, a hotel room and a few alcoholic beverages. Giving thanks, indeed.
3 ) Napa Valley, California
Napa Valley is one of the premier travel destinations in the world. Breathtaking views abound at every turn – mustard in the late winter, picturesque rolling hills planted with vineyards year-round and wineries of every stature dot the landscape. Whether you are wine tasting, dining at renowned restaurants like the French Laundry, pampering yourself with a mud bath in Calistoga, or just enjoying your stay at quaint bed & breakfasts, hotels or resorts … Napa Valley is your spot of heaven on earth.
4 ) Minneapolis, Minnesota
Minneapolis lies on both banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the river’s confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Saint Paul, the state’s capital. If you’re a Black Friday shopper, why would you want anything less than the greatest and largest mall in America? So great, in fact, that it is named the Mall of America. While shopping is the main attraction, you’ll also find aquariums, theme parks, museums and even a wedding chapel.
5 ) New York, New York

While you may have to eat Thanksgiving dinner at a local restaurant, for the rest of your long weekend, you can check out the aptly named Thanksgiving Point Institute. Okay, so we picked this spot based solely on that fact, but it does seem appropriate. Festivities for Christmas begin at the Holiday Lights display on Friday, November 26th. There are many other attractions at this learning complex like a children’s garden, a Museum of Ancient Life and plenty of opportunities to slow down and take in life as it was before all this pesky technology.
